Reggae is a music genre first developed in
Jamaica in the late 1960s.
The word reggae is often associated with the likes of Bob Marley
and Peter Tosh who were early pioneers of the music.
Songs usually express the social, economic and
political conditions of an area in the country or the country in
general. The reggae performer acts as a representative for the
"poor people"(civilians) crying out for help or for relief from the "big
man" (government).
Reggae music has a slow beat which allows for the
perfomers' message to be heard more clearly.
Listen to Bob Marley, Denis Brown and Buju Banton
